A Thank You to Summer's Nurses!

The nurses at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute have been absolutely incredible.  Each one of these women gave of themselves, put love and emotional supports into their patient care and as a result made a tremendous impact on Summer's treatment and her life.  Summer/we will never be able to thank them enough for that.

This thank you idea was born by Summer a few days before she was discharged from the hospital.

During Summer's hospital stay, the nurse's foot wear would often come up in casual conversation and it was well noted that most, if not all, of the nurses were wearing Hoka sneakers.  Summer had recently bought a pair of Hokas herself and enjoyed talking with the nurses about how awesome they were.

Summer decided to write a letter to Hoka, asking them to both recognize the nursing professional as part of their "Better for People" campaign, and to help her thank her nurses by getting each of them a pair of Hoka shoes.  Here is the letter Summer wrote:

On Friday, August 5th, the first day of Summer's LAST chemo treatment, she received the word that HOKA was honored that Summer would want Hoka shoes to be that special gift for her nurses and APPROVED HER REQUEST, providing twelve FREE pairs of Hoka shoes for Summer to give to her nurses.
OMG!!!

Summer decided that she wanted to write a personal note to each of her nurses, create a HOKA coupon, a special QRcode which will send them to this URL, and a hand made gift bag.  And with Laura's famously delicious chocolate chip cookies!

Summer painted the lymphoma cancer ribbon on each bag.

Then creatively outlined the ribbon and put each nurse’s name on the bag.

The gift bag for the nurses that Summer will be distributing today!

The coupon code gets activated today, August 9th on the last day of Summer's cancer treatment and is good for one full year (exp 8/09/2023).  We love the symbolism of Hoka activating them on her last day of treatment!

Summer's dad created this cool QRCode that we printed  and added to the gift bag.  This will bring the nurses directly to this page in the blog if they want to see the letter Summer wrote or check out a little more of the detail about the creation of their gift bags.

Summer will give a few of the gift bags out today when she goes to Dana Farber for her LAST chemo infusion appointment.  The rest of the gift bags will be distributed on Day 21 Cycle 6, the last day of her cancer protocol, a beautifully BORING day, August 25th.

Thank you so much HOKA!!!
