Monday Rest (Day 4 Cycle 5)

Schedule

  • REST & More REST
  • Summer’s Cycle 5 Smoothie Menu in development
  • Colby middle school orientation
  • Tucker gets a bath
  • Bob ear Dr. Apt
  • Dinner- Omaha Steaks burgers

Summer has no energy and not much of an appetite.  There’s not much more she can do but to take care of her body by resting and sleep.  (And lots of RuPaul Drag Race!)

Cycle 5 treatments nearing an end. One more cycle to go!

Bob & Kim went to the Big Y and thanks to the many smoothie recipe suggestions from friends, acquired a list of ingredients that will allow Team Summer to create a nutritious & delicious Cycle 5 Smoothie menu that will offer Summer a healthy variety of meal options and feel good on her mouth and throat!

And in other Team Summer events/news of the day:

Bob & Kim rode their tandem bike to the gym - 7.5 miles each way. No a bad little extra boost to their work out
Had to share what was in the package that arrived at Apt D yesterday - Bob tricked out Kim’s handlebars with a rubber ducky bell & pineapple cup holder.

Tucker got a bath at that amazing self service dog wash. Tucker doesn’t think this place is amazing.  He’d prefer the lake.

Family afternoon nap time!

Bob FINALLY made an appointment with his doctor about his ear that has been completely blocked and aching for weeks now. Summer has been on his case to make the call, but Bob has been treating himself with old prescription ear drops & rubbing alcohol.  He set it up as a zoom appointment instead of going to urgent care and as we all expected, the doctor couldn’t see much over zoom so sent him to the local clinic.  There he discovered that he had a slight ear infection… due to having a piece of his hearing aid lodged deep into his ear canal at his ear drum!  WHAT?!?!

The good news is it was easily removed & Bob’s now on antibiotics.  Not surprisingly he could hear better almost immediately after the appointment.  Summer did NOT rub it in her dad’s face that he should have made this appointment weeks ago!

Finally at the end of our day, Team Summer got to all be together for dinner due to rain cancelling Colby’s baseball game.  We enjoyed Omaha Steak burgers and sweet potato fries. They were unexpectedly delicious!!! I mean, we assumed they’d be good - but they were REALLY good, juicy burgers & fries tasted like restaurant fries!  (Thanks Nana!!)

Tomorrow Summer goes in for her last day of chemo for this cycle & to get unplugged!

😴 Good night!! 💤

  1. "having a piece of his hearing aid lodged deep into his ear canal at his ear drum!" I...don't even understand this at all, but it's Bob, so that's a partial explanation. If it makes him feel any better, Uncle Sean once fell asleep on the couch under a big 80s-style lamp and a moth flew into his ear and got stuck. He did not handle it well. Oil in the ear is the way to handle that situation, by the way. - Keleigh

  2. Self-Dr. Bob may want to consider these inexpensive options for future ear exploration/treatments:

Wow, Cobly leaving elementary and moving up into middle school. Big boy now!
Lemme see if I got this right: Ride 15miles to workout. Normally for the rest of us the ride is enough of a workout.
So Summer has slammed dunked Cycle 5! Now RECOVERY, such a sweet sounding word.
Seems like everyone was scattered around the living room like cordwood on Day 5–such a peaceful scene—probably the long ride+exercise and the chemo portion of Cycle 5 helped create this scene.
Now we’re awaiting the final verdict on the creative smoothie.
