Finally Going Home Friday (Day 15 Cycle 5)

Summer is at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for a third day.

Nurse Kim from 7D and Summer - look at those smiling eyes!

As luck would have it, one of Summer’s favorite nurses from her stay in April was working today and when told that Summer was here and would love to see her, she came right over!  Kim played such an important role when Summer was diagnosed.  I’m so happy that Summer got to see her again and spend some time with her.

Dr. Parry also made a surprise visit and spent about 20 minutes talking through what she’s experiencing in cycle 5 and what we might expect in cycle 6.

“She said I had wicked strong bone marrow because I didn’t hit neutropenia until this cycle and that’s why they kept going up a grade and she was like yeah you were on a super high grade of chemo this cycle.” ~ Summer

Dr. Parry went on to explain that Summer will be going down a grade in chemo for Cycle 6.  She also commented that Summer would probably never be able to give blood again, which bummed her out. :(

Laura was the official visitor today and is being recruited to join BeReal (even though I think I missed my notification today.  Oh well #sortaboomers).

The Daily Board:  Nurse Sam and PCA Minnie are in charge of Summer’s  care today. Supposedly the doctor listed is incorrect.

Summer’s numbers are looking REALLY GOOD and her pain level was between a 3 and a 5, depending on swallowing. ALL day we were hoping to learn when she would be ready to get discharged. Finally after Dr. Parry and the attending came through they said she should be ready to go.  …They only need her to do one thing before they could release her.

πŸ’©POOP!

Well, while one is dealing with the side effects from chemo, this is not as easy a request as you might think and some of us were concerned that this might keep her in the hospital another night!

Summer wrote thank you cards to the nurses who took such good care of her these past 3 days.

Luckily around 6:45pm we got the good news…

Laura and Summer finally were able to check out of BWH close to 8:30pm and after a long few days, so happy to be back home in Wrentham!

We are rounding into the final stretch of Cycle 5, and as we start getting ready for cycle 6, Kim and Bob are hoping to rejoin the team on Sunday pending how Summer feels.  We shall see - we are taking one day at a time at this point!

GOOD NIGHT!

Beautiful picture of Summer and Mom at home.

  1. Just catching up and missed so much in just a week. Honey I’m so sorry to learn you were in the hospital but glad it’s resolved. The girls and I have something that would have probably been better to send last week but will get it to the post today. We love you Summertime.
