Damn COVID - Off to MBTS Friday (Day 8 Cycle 5)

Today was one shitty, emotional day.

 Schedule:

  • Colby to Water Wizz
  • Waiting on equipment “green cap” delivery
  • Relocating to MBTS
  • Ice cream makes everything OK!
  • Movie night:  Zero Dark Thirty
The day started off promising enough with Colby excited about spending the day with friends at Water Wizz and Laura, after dropping off Colby and friends, enjoying more of her birthday week on the beach with a friend in Onset.  It’s another HOT sunny day today - perfect for the planned adventures.

Today was to be another low key rest day for Summer.  Her blood work shows that she’s anemic and she awoke to her mouth and throat starting to feel much more sensitive/sore with that overall shitty lethargic feeling that has plagued this cycle.

Kim put together a smoothie items menu so we could mix up some nutritional and tasty mouth & throat friendly meals.

Unfortunately COVID had different plans for us when we were alerted that a close family friend in Wrentham tested positive for COVID, changing the course of our day and forcing us to reconsider where Summer should spend the next few days as her white blood count #s start to drop.

After much discussion, and us all taking COVID tests ourselves (all negative - thank god!), the team unanimously decided that MBTS was the “safer” place to be and set a course to make that happen, sending needed prescriptions that hadn’t come through to new north shore pharmacy, following up on equipment delivery of needed PICC cleaning supplies, etc.  You couldn’t possibly imagine all the details and logistics!

Summer, Bob & Kim finally hit the road around 2:30pm, just in time to hit Friday afternoon commuter traffic. Figures, right? But arrived home safely and incident free.  We’ll take that!

Once home and settled, Bob was ready to finally shave off his beard!  He’s been wanting to do this for weeks now and his Dad and Uncle Ron inspired him by putting together a fun sequence of looks that he wanted Summer to help him recreate.  Bob found this chart to illustrate how he envisioned the progression.

Summer was willing to give it a shot.

“What if I accidentally shave off one of your eyebrows?” ~Summer

In progress - probably #2 look
Her facial expressions say it all about how she feels about this style!
Bob and Pops sporting the Herman Hofeldt mustache.

And the final product- such a handsome guy!

If anyone can make Summer smile, it’s her dad! And they certainly had some laughs (and tears) shaving Bob’s face.  They then set off to spin the beach in the Camaro with the top down and get some Captain Dusty’s ice cream.

Enjoying an ice cream cone in the park with her dad.
We wrapped up the night watching Zero Dark Forty

When so much of the limited energy Summer has is expended just keeping it together to get through the day, even the slightest obstacles thrown into the mix can be too much.  Luckily we got through it and worked through all the logistics  to make the unexpected move north work. We’ll be here until Tuesday when we have to be back in Wrentham for the visiting nurse.  Until then we hunker down …

💤 Good night 💤
