Monday (Day 14 Cycle 1)

Bob and Laura took Summer over to Dana Farber in Foxboro for her bloodwork appointment this morning.  This is the first time Summer has been to this facility.  Unfortunately, they said that they would not use her port to draw blood - which totally sucks for Summer.

When she got back she was tired and nauseous.  The two great days prior were gone, the nausea was back and she got a bloody nose again.  All in all, not a great day.  Luckily she was able to nap and she slept most of the afternoon.

While Summer slept, Bob got down to business in his hammock with Tucker.

At 3:50pm Dr. Parry called to give Summer an update on her bloodwork and follow up on the bloody noses Summer has been getting.

The GREAT NEWS is that since Summer is young & strong, her bone marrow is producing a good amount of healthy blood cells so her white blood cell count is REALLY high right now.  She is out of the NADIR realm but still needs to be smart/safe as overall she's still compromised.  The other good news about these results is that she does not have to go back on Thursday for more bloodwork which means she essentially has a break from doctors for almost a week until prep for Cycle 2 begins.

Dr. Parry was also sad to hear that Dana Farber in Foxboro wouldn't use her PICC line to draw blood.  She walked Summer through a couple options which includes going into Boston or having her visiting nurse do it.  Summer is going to ask her visiting nurse to do it.

Finally she addressed the bloody noses, thinking that it has nothing to do with the chemo/cancer and probably more due to the dryness in the air.  But she still wanted Summer to let her know when/if it happens again.

Schedule for the day:

  • 10:30am -blood work at Dana Farber in Foxborough
  • 3:50pm - Dr. Parry calls to update on white blood cells
  • Kim & Derek worked
  • Laura went to decorate teacher doors
  • Colby has a baseball game (Laura & Derek went to the game)

This is how you take care of a bloody nose

Summer's hair was notably starting to come out Monday night so we luckily were able to move her haircut appointment up to tomorrow at 2pm!  Summer showered and Laura dries her hair VERY CAREFULLY but it's definitely breaking/starting to come out.
