Last Day of chemo treatment for Cycle 2 - Monday Update (Day 5 Cycle 2)

 

Arriving at Dana Farber - Day 5

Bob and Summer arrived to Dana Farber and after getting her vitals, made it to their personal suite for day five.  Summer says, "Good real estate, it's across from the snack room".

While in the waiting room, they ran into the woman we had met/spent quite a bit of time with over at BWH in the waiting room on the 7th floor.  Her husband had a bone marrow transplant and had been in the hospital for ~80 days  She shared with Bob & Summer that he's doing really well and getting through this! What great news - so good to see hear. 

Seeing Summer like this makes me so sad. 

It was a rough, sucky day for Summer.  She tried to rest - but was so uncomfortable.  That went from feeling uncomfortable & shitty, to shittier with diarrhea.  

They started saline & had about 2.5 hours left of her day 4 meds when they arrived.  Once that was complete, they added several drugs to counter the symptoms of the chemo and then a staggered start of the two final meds.  After that, two injections - a bone marrow stimulant (for her low white blood count) and a 'menopause maker' (that's Bob's term).  

Just before the Rotuxin (her final chemo drug) , they gave her Benadryl - so then she was bonking off of that. 

"It's the Benadryl.  Time for a little nap" ~ Nurse Taylor.

Summer came home with a new medical device attached to her body that will be dispensing more medication in 24 hours. More on that tomorrow… 

LOG Your Log:  Summer was weighed when she got to DCFI and in the afternoon after treatment  She lost 2lbs in that amount of time and says she still took 2 rather large poops after they weighed her the second time.  

But guess what?!! Summer arrived home HUNGRY (although ate very little) and her spirits were super high.  Not at all what we were expecting after the day at DFCI (and day 5 cycle 1) but sooo welcomed.  We had dinner on the deck & retold in humorous fashion (sorry I am not capturing the dialogue here) the 'chest compressions' experience (among other stories). I know it really doesn't sound funny at all... but sometimes you have to laugh at life.  🎶🎶 Ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin’ alive! Stayin’ Alive! 🎶🎶

In other news, Kody caught a fish, the boat is in the water, and Colby & his buddies took the first tubing ride of the season.

We ended the night on a HIGH note in our new TEAM SUMMER T-shirts with more family bonding and limited crying.  Let's call them happy tears - It was a 'Friday night' after all.
