Thursday Update (Day 3 Cycle 1)

The Upside:  The doctors visited Summer this morning during rounds & said she looks PERFECT!  Her body is doing exactly what they want it to be doing & they are pleased with how she is doing - physically & mentally.

The Downside:  It was a tough morning emotionally, her stomach hurts & the jittery sensation throughout her body is driving her a little crazy.

Dad to the rescue!  If anyone or anything can turn someone’s day around, it’s Bob. And not JUST Bob - how about Bob talking about poop! Yes, poop - And Summer gleefully chimed in on the banter, in much more detail than I will share here, by describing her bowel movement today as “the most depressing pathetic excuse for a poop - Like a sick yorkie.” 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ i didn’t ask her to elaborate.

The other topic of the day was one many people have asked about - Summer’s gorgeous blond hair. The doctors have told Summer that she will lose her hair and it will occur between week 2 & 3.  While Summer is obviously not happy about this & really doesn’t want to lose her eyebrows, she’s taking the news in true “Summer-style”, researching wigs and programs, like Locks of Love, where she could donate her hair before she loses it. “At least if I can’t have it, someone else can.”   It’s also worth noting that she’s coming up with lists of bald characters for Halloween costumes. I’ll keep you in suspense for a bit on that one.

We feel so insanely lucky that Day 3 of chemo is going so well and we are starting to feel a little ‘normal’ - our new normal.  I continue to be inspired by her strength, positive spirit and humor through this.

Discussions about hospital discharge aren’t even entertained at this point, however, day five [of the first (of six) cycle] - the final day of the chemical infusion begins Saturday morning and ends Sunday morning. We expect that she’ll be monitored a few days before she’s released.
