The Transport from BWH to Dana Farber
The transport arrived around 1:15pm to pick Summer up from her room to take her over to her first Dana Farber appointment. The gentlemen doing the transport was a very kind Haitian gentleman but he was slightly distracted by something that he was listening to on his headphones - it sounds like a church service. We believe it was the Greek Orthodox Easter.
We asked him if he was taking Summer to Dana Farber and he said YES.
So we all follow him and he leads up to the super secret back elevator and down to the first floor. Derek and I had already dropped off most of Summer's stuff at the car, but we had one more box that Bob was carrying. The transport guy encouraged Bob to take another wheelchair to use that for his package. Since we were in the lobby, I offered to just take the box to the van and I'd meet up with them. To which the transport guy says "I'll follow you."
"No, no. DON'T follow me. They need to go to Dana Farber. I am just stopping at the car."
"Ok" he says.
He then proceeded to follow me anyway. Was it a perhaps coincidence that we were going in the same direction? Derek and I start cracking up because we KNEW as soon as we get to the van, this guy is going to be confused.
Laura and Bob mentioned multiple times - We are going to Dana Farber, right?? And throughout our 2 weeks here, we never ONCE saw a wheelchair being pushed between the hospitals. We knew there was an indoor walkway between the buildings but we had no idea where it was. And this was this guys JOB so who are we to question where he is going!
AND then, as predicted, he stopped when I stopped at the van! "No - we aren't taking Summer in the van. We need to get Summer to her appointment at Dana Farber."
To which he says "WAIT, where do you want to go?!"
"DANA FARBER" we pretty much all reply. "7th floor."
"Well then we didn't have to come outside! Let's go!"
Back inside we went. We were laughing hysterically - our transport guy didn't think it was nearly as funny as we did. Up the elevator and through the "Bridge of Hope" - which was cool because it's all different beautiful birds carrying flowers/twigs (and Summer LOVES birds!) and the a slight workout for our transport guys up a ramp - "You got this!". Once we figured out how to get through the secure doors between the hospitals (thank god an employee with a badge happened to arrive), we finally made it to our destination on the 7th floor of Dana Farber.
